Paying Attention

Bigstockphoto_Students_In_Class_Paying_Atten_3917139

From early age we are asked to pay attention. After a while prompting doesn't have to occur. But today we not going to talk about external attention but internal attention.

Does it sound surprising that paying attention to how we feel is at the heart of dis-ease prevention? And the energy sciences provide us tools with which to pay attention which can become a lifestyle behavior.

The energy patterns of Vata Pitta and Kapha are aids in personal observation. The common phrase, "Oh, there I go again," is one we hear in different forms but it implies this self reflection that all of us do. We may feel flighty or moving too fast(Vata), angry or judgmental(Pitta), or just no umph(Kapha). These are all part of the human experience and help us see these energy patterns at work.

Another way of paying attention from an energy science view is through the qualities of human experience. Does this food or drink make me feel hot or cold, light or heavy, sharp or dull? This type of observation helps us with whether food choices may be good or not so good for us.

So there is no wrong way or right way of doing things. The key is how whatever we do makes us  FEEL. Was how I reacted or responded make me feel judgmental and critical? Did that meal with those foods that are energetically imbalancing make me feel heavy, too hot, dull, or dense? At times foods such as dairy can produce nasal congestion which carries the qualities of heavy, liquid, dense, gross, cold, and dull.

And as we have discussed earlier, this writing, a book, what a friend tells us, will not convince us. We all have to convince ourselves.

When we use these verbal observing tools of the energy science then we can begin participating more fully with each human experience that we encounter. Whether it's a casual conversation with a friend or a meal where we are in full participation.

Nutritional Likes and Dislikes

Bigstockphoto_Validate_and_declined_symbols_6466155

We all have likes and dislikes in our nutritional diet, don't we?

These stem from our past history, friends, teachers, but some are darn right desires that try as we might we can't explain why we avoid or are attracted to them.

So we like things such as coffee, tomatoes, carbonated drinks, hot spices everyday, animal foods such as beef, duck, lamb, pork. We all have that salivation list.

If we look at these through the lens of an energy science nutritional approach we find them as yea and nay, that is yes for you but not for another; and vice versa no for you and yes for the other.

But there are foods and drinks that are universally Nay for everyone and Yea for everyone. Take a look.

Nays  Raw tomatoes, bread with yeast(not toasted), miso, store bought yogurt, pork and lamb, chocolate, coffee, hard liquor, carbonated drinks, icy cold drinks, white sugar, and poor food combinations.

Yeas  Sweet apples, applesauce, sweet berries and cherries, cooked beets, cooked carrots, green beans, cooked leeks, okra, cooked peas, sweet potatoes, summer squash, seitan, sprouted wheat bread(nonyeasted), split mung dal, goat's milk cottage cheese, egg whites, freshwater fish, ghee, aloe vera, sweet berry juice, tea, grain coffee, grape and mango juice, peach nectar, all the cooling spices, supplements such as calcium magnesium and zinc in moderate amounts, chlorella.

Three observations come to mind for me. There are more yeas than nays. YEA!

Secondly the nays have a lot of attractiveness to them for us in general. White sugar, chocolate are screamers but bread with yeast(if not toasted), and carbonated drinks are also engaging as well.

And lastly, the message is that no matter what energy pattern combination you are as revealed at foodsheal.com there is plenty to eat without risking nutritional imbalance. What a deal, huh?

I Eat Healthy

Healthy Diet with Book

This is a common refrain that I hear almost daily. And I have no doubt that it is true for the person saying it. But where does the truth lie since this is an individual statement premised on what they believe is healthy and say it with such conviction?

The number of calories consumed doesn't define the quality of our foods and drink in our diet. Right now the conviction of eating healthy lies in what we don't do. We don't go to fast food joints because somebody has deemed them unhealthy.

If healthy means eating lots of fruits and vegetables, that might be healthy.  But some would contend that eating raw vegetables would be even more nutritious.  Perhaps eating less meat would be considered healthy. Or being vegetarian.  Or avoiding refined sugar would be healthy.  Or I only eat organic.

But all of these statements miss a very important point.  Whether corn is organic, the vegetable is raw, the meat is buffalo or the fast food is nutritious, the food to be healthy must resonate with our physiology.

We know a lot about broccoli, the number of calories per gram, the number of carbohydrates per gram, the vitamin and mineral content but this quantitative analysis cannot tell me if broccoli resonates with EACH of our own physiologies.  I just know a lot about broccoli. This is a matter science nutritional approach.

So what is healthy for me may not be so healthy for you from an energetic perspective.  I could use banana once or twice a week but for another individual, banana should not be consumed because it would produce imbalance.  I shouldn't eat tomatoes or corn but some other friend, she could use them in moderation.

So you see it is the qualitative character of the food that makes it relatively good or not so good for us.  And it's a great gift that the energy science nutrition has given us because it gives us direction for our nutrition and removes all the confusion.

When we begin eating foods that resonate with our physiologies then we will be able to say, "I eat healthy."

Raw Food

Vegetables

We have talked a lot about digestive fire and its importance.

So what about raw food? There's a good deal of talk about how nourishing it is. But is it?

No cooked away nutrients. Pure Nature without any derivatives. That's got to be beneficial. Right?

The energy science view is that to enhance digestive fire's effect on foods consumed, the use of heat and steam to provide some breakdown of the cellulose fibrous elements is of benefit to our digestive fire.

It makes sense. If we want to enhance the campfire's strength, putting a dry log(partially cooked food) on the fire instead of a wet one(raw food) enhances the effectiveness of the fire. Theidea is not to expend energy that we don't have to. Make it easy on ourselves.

I think the argument is that, "What the heck, the digestion is strong enough to handle it." That may be so but the qualities of rough, dry, light, and hard all contribute to Vata imbalance which is another reason why to avoid raw food. Vata due to its elemental makeup, increases the other energy patterns of Pitta and Kapha.

As we have talked about in times past there are what we call mythology. Raw foods fall into that category in my mind.

The Medical Intelligentsia

Bigstockphoto_Asian_Female_Doctor_Or_Scienti_5696866

Take care not to make the intellect our god; it has powerful muscles, but no personality.

                                                                                        Albert Einstein

Our current matter science medical model is hard at work with research to help us understand the mindbody as a matter or molecular field and the dis-ease processes that occur. It uses the intellect to reason through data and come to conclusions that can lead to our understanding of the dis-ease process and how to best treat dis-ease.

But there is a danger in making this molecular medical model the end all and be all of scientific information primarily because there is often misinformation that is derived by the various studies that confront us that require digestion. In the last few days a published study suggested that carbonated drinks increase longevity.

Now that's a stretch. Yet there it is in black and white. But if we make our medical matter science model and its intellect THE source, we will be misled. This is a major stumbling block for most lay people and even physicians who are trying to "figure it out" with problems such as obesity and nutrition.

The message here is, "Don't believe everything that you read." As physicians in the allopathic tradition(matter science medical model of today) we have been exposed over the years to information that goes no where. We have grown accustomed to the intellect taking us no where often enough that we expect more corroboration with new data and its conclusions.

My message is that the information from matter science probing is suspect but that from the energy science is to be believed including the recommended lifestyle behaviors around health.

Heresy!

The reason I can be so bold is that the energy science model does not purport to make observations  about the gene that controls cystic fibrosis. It makes observations about the qualities that are part of the laws of Nature herself.

For example, foods have qualities and so do our mindbodies. If foods and drink consumed in our diet contain qualities that lead to imbalance then we will be unhealthy due to our nutrition.

As we said before, I am not here to convince you. You will convince yourself
