Mathematical Models and Health

  Bigstock_Transparent_Head_Of_The_Person_5094780

Recently I was sitting next to the guest speaker from the NIH who was speaking about mathematical models that were being developed to predict success of treatment for particular malignancies

"Is it possible that we are giving patients the wrong message when we predict for them?" I asked.

"Not really. Because people are guided by statistics that give them a window of what may come", he responded.

:"But perhaps we are introducing a nocebo effect for patients even though they don't know it."

Placebo means "to please" and nocebo would have the opposite effect An unintended negative response to the news about the statistical likelihood of poor survival could result when the matter science medical model reports the findings

Statistics are just that Numbers that come from models that have been developed about disease processes But none of us are a statistic We are human mindbodies who have free will and the ability to change our human course

There are so many predictions about the future which never come true So buyer beware of future predictions There may be benefit in not totally relying on a medical model that predicts

Have you ever had a prediction not come true? Do you think that predictions can help us? Do they help or hinder us?

“Lose Weight Diets” And Energy Science Nutrition

In our need to control our weight problems over the last three decades there have been and will continue to be the diets to lose weight And now weight loss or bariatric surgery is being used for difficult recalcitrant cases

And within each is a stroke of brilliance that hits upon a molecular formula that in someway effects the physiology in a positive way so that weight loss occurs

There are positive benefits to the weight loss in terms of regained self esteem, feeling attractive, ease in relationships All of these things occur but unfortunately very often the discipline for the program breaks down and weight gain is the invariable result

I would submit in each of these programs even operative procedures there is a gem of energy science that sparkles and shows forth its brilliance It works

But the short term is not long term

Because these programs are not grounded on a foundation of fundamental energy science nutritional principles they become short term not long term solutions to the Kapha imbalance

The key to creating a nutritional program is to ground it on sound energy science nutritional tenets Then it will have the desired result, weight loss but along the way balance that will have untoward benefits in other areas of life as well

In this way losing weight is not the goal Balance and lifestyle eating behaviors is a process and, oh by the way, we lose weight

This is the new growing paradigm for those of us who deal with the global overweight issue

Have you had problems with weight gain after losing weight? What did you learn from the experience? Can your knowledge help others who are on a similar journey?

Personal Trainer

  Bigstock_No__Not_Again__771688

In a previous blog MOVE we talked about many nutritional things that we can do for the overweight condition or the PK imbalance

My friend Sue came by today and we were talking about a great way to build momentum behind the inertia which is present in all us to one degree or another

She was ecstatic at having found a personal trainer in the Bay area who would come by the condo and for an hour would put her hubby and herself through the paces 3 days per week

Bigstock_Trainer_assisted_sit-ups_6676563

Personal trainers are becoming more and more prominent and can be a huge adjunct in our seeking of balance that is created by the Pitta Kapha mindbody constitutional makeup

Inertia is a big problem for the Kapha energy pattern but once this inertia is overcome LOOK OUT! Katie bar the door!

And the powerful insight here is that since Kapha is a true mindbody concept when we activate the body we motivate the mind Awesome!

What does that look like? The mind becomes more creative, excited, and enthused regarding the body's workout And due to the rewards of increased activity the mind gets into a positive feedback loop

Expense? Can we afford not to?

And this simple insight because we are operating from an energy science medical level of understanding not a matter science medical model

Do you notice that when you're in a mental funk it's hard to overcome the inertia and get out and do? Have you noticed foods do this to you? Have you ever thought about a personal trainer to just point you in the right direction and then ask for refreshers after that?

Cheap Medicine

    Bigstock_Boy_Holding_up_Produce_782185

He who takes medicine and neglects diet, wastes the skill of the physician

                                                                        Chinese Proverb

It is said the the supplement industry is presently a $3 billion business and that's probably an underestimation

This movement is a natural progression from our present consciousness that says that the improvement in health is delivered by a pill

If I have leg cramping and I take magnesium and my cramps get better it is even more convincing to me that the pill is just the right antidote for my problem

If I take a "potent" multivitamin and I feel great the next day guess what? "That multivitamin rocks," I gleefully and gratefully react.

Have we heard of the placebo effect? It's when we take or do something and then psychologically assign the response to what we took even though there is no causal relation Not surprisingly there is a 30% placebo response in pharmaceutical studies done in matter science medicine today

The bottom line is this: did the magnesium or the multivit "do it" or is it a placebo response? No one will convince us one way or another but I would propose that there is a cheaper way

Food that we buy in the grocery store has the potential to make us sicker or healthier And we eat everyday so it seems like a no brainer that the cheapest medicine that we have available to us on a daily basis is the food we ingest

Sooooo….. when we go the grocery store let's reframe it and say we're going to the pharmacy to get some medicine just as we would if we were going to our favorite drugstore

This is the new paradigm in nutrition and the food selection begins with choices that are appropriate for our unique mindbody constitution See foodsheal.com

Twenty Minutes to Nutritional Nirvana

  Bigstock_Cilantro_At_The_Market_570603

Probably the easily and most digestible meal or food on the planet is kitchari

The value is that it is inexpensive nutrition and made of simple ingredients that nourish the GI tract

Here's how to do it

1 Bringing about 1.5 quarts of water to near boiling add 1cup of split mung dal

2 Begin cooking 2 cups of rice in a rice cooker

3 As the dal is cooking at medium temperature cut up

Green beans    Leeks    Carrots    Asparagus        (these veggies can be used by anyone)

Put the veggies into cook with the dal

4 In a different burner melt 2 T of ghee(clarified butter) or regular butter(ghee is best)

In the melted ghee place 1-2T of fennel seeds

Then offer ground cumin coriander and tumeric 1T each

Be careful not to burn the spices(all cooling but ramp up digestive fire)

5 Offer the spice mixture to the cooking dal and veggies (it will spatter when hot oil hits the water!)

6 Food process fresh ginger (stores well in glass jar and kept in fridge for 4-5 days)

Cut some fresh cilantro(keep the leaves attached the stalks)

Get out some lime juice(juice containers in the grocery store work well)

Dish up the rice, put the dal/veggie mixture(how soupy your call) over the rice, garnish with ginger, cilantro, and lime to your own taste With a little sea salt Awesome!

With practice and ingredients easily accessible this can be done in 20 minutes

An incredible nourishing meal that is easily digestible and leaves you fresh and satisfied because it gives you all six tastes

Have you ever made kitchari? What do you think of the spice mixture? If you are having digestive issues this can be the ticket to help
