Green Composite Protein Recipe and Detoxification

VegetablesThis unique combination of alkalinizing greens and protein can make a complete meal or as side dish for other foods on the table(can be used with squash, grain, and chutney). Using ghee and water separates the lipid and water soluble materials from the ingredients which aids in the digestion, absorption, and assimilation of the food. The alkalinizing impact of the steamed greens heals an acidic inflammatory environment of an unhealthy GI tract and its agni

Equipment Food processor

2 quart sauce pan with cover(preferably glass)

Ingredients

Green source (choose one and vary from day to day)

Collard greens, Kale, Spinach, Chard rainbow or otherwise, Broccoli rabe, White daikon radish leaves, Tender beet greens

Subtle greens(choose one)

Cilantro, Fresh basil, Parsley, Mint

Lime juice

Ghee

Culinary spice mixture

Mom’s masala or High Pitta Masala(chandika.com)

Soma salt(chandika.com)

Protein(choose one)

White chicken

Eggs

Vegan powder(available at chandika.com)

Split mung dal, mung dal, split red, kuthi, black beluga, green-gray du puy, green french dal

Spring water is preferable(has more soma) in preparation

Instructions

Heat 1-2 inches water into a 2 quart pan with 2T ghee and 2t spice mixture. Add chopped green and steam with cover on the pot. Steam until water pretty much evaporated. If you want a juicier green dish then leave some water. Place in food processor and process after adding soma salt, lime juice, and tapioca flour. Place a bunch of subtle greens and complete processing. Do not cook the subtle greens with the rough greens.

The vegan powder(chandika.com) can be mixed 4T powder and 8oz water and added to the green composite.

Add 1t olive oil if not cooking with chicken which is best when boiled. If using eggs cook scrambled and can then add to the green processed mixture. Another way to add the eggs is to poach them is boiling vinegar water, place them on toasted English muffins with ghee, and place the green composite over the top of the poached eggs and muffin.

Detoxification and the Green Composite Protein Recipe

Whenever one is undertaking detoxification such as panchakarma(PK), the use of the green composite protein recipe(GCPR) is ideal as it keeps the GI tract supported to receive the toxins and excess qualities that are released during the therapy session. Even when not doing a PK event, the use of the GCPR can be beneficial as any liberated ama can be easily received as the GI tract is alkalinized and healthy.

At times one can experience unexplained fatigue as one of the side effects of clinical use of herbal memory nectars or transdermal creams. This fatigue is related to circulating toxic load and can be countered by using a binding agent such as tapioca pudding which can be found as granulated tapioca in most stores. This binds the ama and keeps it from continuing to circulate in the body.

The Energetic Truth About Food Allergies

Woman Stomachache In BedEnergetically food allergies or sensitivities are a result of poor digestion This is difficult to understand from a molecular approach to dis-ease since the current health care model sees molecules and our reactions to them as the problem in allergies  Find the offending molecule, avoid the molecule, and the problem is solved

This is frustrating to patients seeking to understand food allergies and how to treat it because the offending molecule can be difficult to figure out And it sometimes leads a real difficulty in choosing foods thinking that perhaps the symptoms are related to their "food allergies" so they are fearful of eating anything Often times elimination diets are used to try to sort it out but usually come up with equivocal solutions

The Dis-ease Origin Is the Same

With a different way of seeing the mindbody from an energy science viewpoint rather than the currently used matter science discipline it becomes clear that food allergies are interrelated with IC Why is this so?

Dis-ease or lack of harmony in the mindbody begins in the gastrointestinal tract(GIT) and when there is too much of the hot quality it leaves the GIT to be eliminated through the urinary tract The GIT is not healthy enough to deal with the excess hot quality

Food allergies that occur in the GIT leads to distress as well but the energy science explanation is due to lack of digestive strength The same lack of digestive strength leads to two seemingly different forms of dis-ease

Lack of Digestive Strength

Digestive strength from a matter or molecular science approach is not enough digestive enzymes to do the job Because of this toxic debris builds up much like a cold campfire has unprocessed charred remains Acute symptoms occur after eating such as:

Poor appetite Coated tongue Nausea Bloating

Belching with smell of previously eaten food

Weakness and fatigue Foul gas or flatus; bad-smelling feces Unhappiness Constipation or diarrhea

Abdominal pain and/or distention Bad breath Bad taste in the mouth Restlessness

Heaviness after food

Congestion Excessive sleep

These signs and symptoms represent poor digestive strength but as you can see could be interpreted as "food allergy"

Then chronic signs and symptoms may occur over years of poor digestion strength:

Tissue emaciation Malabsorption Emotional eating Food cravings Food allergies

Insomnia Poor visual perception Poor circulation Abnormal color and complexion

Lack of luster(skin rashes)

Fear Grief, sadness, and depression Confusion Apathy, repulsion Shortened life span

Aggressiveness

Indecisiveness and lack of discrimination Lack of intelligence(loss of clarity) Impatience

Improper direction and inappropriate goals

Isn't it interesting that fear, confusion, apathy, aggressiveness occur in this list of chronic symptoms? The reason for this is that there is a mindbody connection What happens in the mind happens in the body What happens in the body happens in the mind

From an energy science view mind and body are intimately spliced You cannot separate them Mind is in every cell of the body So we see that if the GIT is effected with dis-ease or disharmony then it will register in the mind and these psychological manifestations will be apparent

3 Things to Do to Improve Digestive Strength

As I have said in previous blogs eating according to your mindbody energy makeup is the most important thing along with avoiding poor food combinations But here are some other general things you can do as well

1 Use a green composite protein recipe

2 Use of cooling spices such as cumin coriander fennel seed mint cardamon tumeric and fresh basil and avoidance of other heating spices These will aid in digestion

3 Use a probiotic and make fresh homemade yogurt...dilute 80% water with 20% yogurt to make a probiotic drink Drink after the noon meal

Healing with Multiple Ways: An Energy Science Approach

VPK circleIn the energy science world of healing it's not just one thing that you do that brings about healing but rather a multiplicity of therapies done over a period of time that leads to results

Foundational Work

Healing is just like building a structure....it begins with a good foundation

1 Doing a Day in Balance...this means going to bed early and getting up early, eating your biggest meal at noon, and having some set routines in the morning such as scraping the tongue, kevala(oil pulling), white sesame seeds, pranayama(specifically kapalabhati), neti pot use

2 At the very least eating a nutritional format appropriate for you energy constitutional makeup

3 Avoiding incompatible food combinations

4 Meditation helps calm the mindbody to do this work Otherwise the mind will be fretful, anxious, fearful, and will throw in the towel early on

Beyond Foundational Work

The above work sets the stage for more advanced work We need to set the mindbody up for success in the process of releasing imbalanced qualities, ama(unprocessed undigested food that clogs the channels), and toxic ama called amavisha The latter is particularly toxic because when released it is hot and can produce lots of various problems(eg skin rashes and conditions, sensed excess heat, diarrhea or change in bowel pattern)

When the bowel is prepared properly with appropriate nutrition and therapies are added then the mindbody will be able to tolerate the toxic download without a detox crisis Having said that, even with the best laid plans, detox crisis can occur but that can be managed  What are basic advanced therapies?

1 Green composite protein recipe sets the stage for healing the GIT(gastrointestinal tract)

2 Use of nasya which is supportive of the process, clears mental ama and amavisha, and directly effects positive mental changes

3 Use of transdermal creams applied to marmani(acupuncture points without the needles)

4 Use of herbal memory nectars Similar to herbal tinctures that have alcohol, nectars do not They bypass the digestive process and by their energetics create favorable physiologic effects for healing

5 Continual improvement of the disturbed GIT with various teas(eg CCF or CF teas)

Healing Emotional Trauma

bigstockphoto_Scared_5283521In contrast to the matter science discipline the mind and body are intimately spliced...what happens in the body happens in the mind and what happens in the mind happens in the body There is really no difference between mind and body In the matter science(molecules) mind is located in the brain but the mind has escaped according to the energy science Mind is located in every cell of the mindbody

For many these days the emotional traumas or hurts are thrown into a big black bag that we carry around with us so we don't have to look at them In the energy science that big black bag where we throw our undigested, unprocessed, thoughts, feelings, and emotions is the subconscious and the physical space anatomically where our subconscious is located is the fascia, a vast supporting connective tissue network of the body As we accumulate more and more emotional "garbage" our fascia becomes tight, dense, inflexible, and rigid It is no wonder that as we age we get more and more inflexible and stiff because we don't process all of this undigested, unprocessed emotional "stuff"

Dealing with Emotional Hurts

This has enormous implications in healing emotional and/or psychological trauma because counseling can only go so far with the deep seated emotional problems that we are hiding from And then there is the mind's ability to deny that anything is wrong anyway The mind and more specifically the ego actually averts our attention away from trauma we have experienced in the past

Simple day to day emotional hurts can be related to longstanding issues that we have never looked at before And the first step in the process is complete and total acceptance of what is

Doing physical work deals with mind problems

The energy science model allows us to treat this in a number of different ways....marmani, meditation, pranayama, mantra, and herbs

As we have talked about in the past the marma system of the Ayurvedic discipline is analagous to the acupuncture system in the Oriental medicine discipline Marmani are localized concentrations of mind topographically located on the skin in specific locations of the mindbody Since they are mind localized to specific points we can use them to treat the mind using herbs

Meditation is important to quiet the mind so we can get to acceptance and be able to look at the emotional hurts in a more objective way without fear, criticism, judgement, anger, or passivity The use of mantra(an instrument of the mind) can also help settle the mind

Pranayama is the use of the breath for healing and can be meditative but also can be used to support improving the heart's agni or ability to digest unprocessed, undigested thoughts, feelings and emotions

All of this takes time and discipline but real healing always requires this of us

What does this have to do with chronic disease? Amazingly those imbalances that are causing any disease are the same imbalances that are causing the emotional hurts...deal with one and you'll deal with the other

Sources of Unexplained Fever

bigstock_Boy_Horrified_By_Enormous_Brea_2264975Have you ever felt hot after eating and wondered why?

It won't be possible to figure it out from a matter science medical approach but the understanding is clear from a energy science point of view

When overeating occurs(defined as consuming more than 2 handfuls at a meal) the energy patterns of Vata, Pitta, Kapha, or combinations of them enter the bloodstream and push stagnant energy along with them And there will always be some congestion when overeating occurs no matter which energy pattern is involved

From a molecular point of view stagnant energy is lymph or chyle that sludges in the lymphatics of the gut

The digestive fire(collective term for all the enzymes in the GI tract) becomes ramped up due to the overeating challenge and it also becomes disseminated into the blood as well resulting in fever and an internal feeling of heat This can also result in mental events such as anger and impatience

The timing of the fever is related to which energy pattern gets shoved into the blood stream Kapha soon after eating; Pitta about two hours after eating; Vata four hours after eating Which energy pattern is pushed into the bloodstream is based on the types of foods consumed in the overeating event For example if a lot of sweet, sour, and salty tastes are consumed, Pitta and Kapha symptoms will predominate

Kapha symptoms of overeating are congestion, runny nose, cold and cough

Pitta symptoms result in high fever, temporal headache, nausea, irritability, photophobia, and diarrhea

With the Vata energy pattern entering the blood stream, shivering, body ache, insomnia, and anxiety can occur These can leave a residual flu like syndrome that can last a few days

Have you ever overeaten? Have you recognized any of the above symptoms? Do you remember what produced the overeating?

Daily Routine and Lifestyle Behavior to Aid Detox

VPK circleWhen we discuss the energetic management of a disease process, a different world of healing is entered We leave behind our thinking about the body as a collection of molecules that can be manipulated by surgery and Pharma and begin seeing our mindbodies as energy fields This has great value since all disease begins in the energy field way before it becomes manifest in the world of molecules

The energy science of Ayurveda not only gives us a vocabulary(Vata, Pitta, Kapha, agni etc) by which we can talk about our mindbodies as energy fields but it also gives us lots of ways to take care of our energy mindbodies When's the best time to get up in the morning or to go to bed, what's the best time to eat our biggest meal....all based on the concept that we are energetic expressions of Nature Herself The icdiet and the VPK nutritional formats are based on this energetic concept

5 Fundamental Energy Daily Practices

These practices could be called "healthy" lifestyle behavior patterns because they induce detoxification of the energy mindbody

1 Get up with Nature and go to bed with Nature This means we should be getting up early(between 5 and 7a) and go to bed between 930 and 11p

2 Biggest meal at noon Nature's most active time of the day is at noon and this is when our digestion is the strongest(even if it's lousy it will the least lousy at noon time) and so we should take advantage of this simple concept

3 Improve your digestion Using foods that are energetically suitable for us; avoid snacking(fruit is an exception); avoid incompatible food combinations; only consuming what you can hold in your 2 hands at any one meal; using CCF tea and other spices routinely Also using that aid in detoxification such as tapioca and arrowroot

4 Have a morning routine Splash cold water into the eyes(wakes up the nervous system) do a sesame oil swish(draws Kapha energy in the form of mucous from the nasal passages), use of a neti pot to draw Kapha energy, brush the teeth, and every 2 weeks place garlic oil in the ear canals to prevent wax accumulation Then number 5.....

5 Exercise daily This improves our digestive strength and enhances the upward and downward energy of the mindbody Kapalabhati is a specific energy breathing technique that is very powerful 10 pushups(improves upward moving energy) and 10 situps improves downward moving energy

The Biological Energy Science: Changing the Way You Think

So there is a deeply rooted understanding of our relationship with Nature and this then helps direct our choices This is what is fundamentally missing with our current matter science discipline of healing.....a lack of philosophy...that is, a way of thinking The energy science of Ayurveda is part of a greater system of thinking which is a philosophy of life

It defines our relationship with that which is around us, that is, our world According to this way of thinking we are part of Nature Herself and Nature is discussed in terms of energy patterns of VPK Then we understand that everything is defined in the visible and invisible world as VPK(that is, there are VPK times of day, VPK seasons, and VPK institutions and companies.....because they are nothing but collections of VPK)

This makes the energy science system of healing different than our current system

Marma and Yoga Therapy

LE bladder marmaAt times people attempt yoga but due to specific areas of tightness of the fascia they don't make progress  What would it be like to wash away that fascial tightness and become more flexible and more successful in your yoga practice?

In the energy science disciplines of Ayurveda and traditional Oriental medicine(TOM) the use of topographical points on the skin are used for treatment of various disease states In TOM these points are called acupuncture or acupressure points In the energy science of Ayurveda these points are called marma points There is some variability in terms of location and what they represent but the utility of use is undoubtedly valuable The whole body has lots of marma points and the ones depicted in the diagram are three around the ankle

In conventional medicine today the use of transdermal therapies has had a wide application utilized mostly as a delievery system These pharma systems are designed to get molecules into the body that would otherwise be digested in the gastrointestinal tract(GIT) and rendered useless A good example is that of the testosterone molecule that is digested in the GIT Because of this no functional hormone support can be acheived by taking it orally But with the use of the transdermal delivery system testosterone can be effectively absorbed across the skin to provide its physiologic benefits

In chronic diseases such as chronic prostatitis, IBS, GERD, and fibromyalgia we can make use of marma points to deliver herbs into the mindbody for healing

Marma and Transdermal Creams

There are specific marma associated with organs such as the liver, lungs and nerve plexi associated with disease in these organs From an Ayurvedic point of view all diseases can be affected and treated because neurological involvement of the nerve plexi is the rule This nervous tissue is invaded by imbalancing qualities that move to various parts of the mindbody and energetically affect the functioning of these plexi

Transdermal creams can be made so that they can take the herbs across the skin and deliver their effects to target tissues of the mindbody The carriers are energetic vehicles move the finest of vibrational frequencies of the herbs to the respective locations in this case the pelvic plexus The carries move through the nadis and hair follicles of the skin and attach to the synapses of nerve endings leading to distant effects

The point is that the nerves essentially carry the vibrational frequencies

Uses of Transdermal Creams

cont1 Pain rol There is no pain without the mobile energy pattern of Vata which is most expressed in the the nervous system So when we use transdermal creams and affect the nervous system directly we have the chance to change pain

2 Therapy for conditions Conditions for chronic diseases will best respond to the the use of transdermal creams because they address the chronic imbalances that occur in tissues

3 Bringing overall balance By affecting the tissues and eliminating imbalances we have the chance to reverse disease

Mental Clarity and Food Choices

bigstockphoto_Dna_1913856With the close of the 20th century and the beginnings of the human genome project there was interest in the effects food had on the mind This was particularly the case for such health problems as obesity, diabetes, and "overnutrition"

The mind is not a matter or molecular field but rather thoughts are an energy field entity so the energy science can help us with choices Think about it Can we wet our thoughts? Is there any validity to the molecular expressions of thought? Yes, it's true that there are molecular traces of thought by PET scan after the thought but as yet no one has defined that thoughts have a molecular home

Even though we study the brain there are many researchers who would argue that the mind has "escaped" That mind is no longer relegated to the brain but is in every cell of the mindbody

Mind and Nutritional Choices

So why should we care about our thoughts and nutrition? Seems like a dead end

Bu what if I were to tell you that what you eat affects your future choices about food? What if the choices you're making right now are affecting your food choices in the future? That is, if you continue to make choices that blunt your decision making clarity then you'll continue to make the same bad choices as you have done in the past

From an energy science point of view the mind is the DNA of each and every cell of the mindbody Every cell is imbued with mind or DNA Molecularly and structurally our daily life choices impact DNA expression so we need guidance as to what are good choices This is what the energy science discipline provides

What Are Mind Supporting Nutritional Choices?

The energy science of Ayurveda states that there are foods that produce over time mental clarity These would be:

Mango pomegranite figs date peaches and pears(in general most fruit); sweet potato sprouts leafy greens zucchini yellow squash and asparagus; basmati rice quinoa blue corn tapioca barley; mung dal red and yellow lentils; fresh unprocessed cow's milk ghee soft cheese homemade yogurt goat's milk; almonds white sesame seeds fresh cashews; saffron tumeric cardamom coriander fennel cumin; fresh sugarcane juice jaggery raw sugar raw honey; herbal teas such as brahmi and licorice;

Foods that increase mind and thoughts(increase hyperactivity):

Sour fruits apples banana guava tamarind most citus; potatoes nightshades broccoli cauliflower broccoli spinach winter squash pickles; millet corn buckwheat; brown lentils lima and kidney beans adzuki beans tur dal small amounts of black pinto and pink beans; sour cream salted or sour butter cream cottage cheese ice cream; most nuts brown sesame seeds; curry chili cayenne black pepper; processed sugar artificial sweetners cooked honey; coffee black and green tea; fish most seafood chicken

Foods that decrease mental clarity and produce dullness:

Avocado watermelon plums apricots; mushrooms garlic onion pumpkin; wheat brown rice; urad dal and large amounts of black pinto and pink beans; hard processed cheese processed milk eggs; peanuts rancid nuts black sesame seeds; jalapeno pepper nutmeg; molasses soft drinks stevia extremely sweet tasting foods; alcohol marijuana most other drugs; beef pork lamb and venison

This latter group is particularly important and will produce over time obesity, metabolic syndrome, and dullness leading to continued poor food choices

Anyhow as they say "Food for Thought"

Meditation and Chronic Pain

bigstock-Elderly-Woman-On-Beach-Meditat-52950844Probably one of the most challenging clinical conditions in medicine are those where physical pain plays a role in the chronic disease Although there is always a psychological or emotional component to this pain, it is the physical pain that becomes so daunting This is the case in any chronic disease associated with pain  But what makes it so challenging? Is it really the pain? Or is it something else?

Anybody confronted with chronic pain will attest to the fact that it's the continuous physical discomfort that doesn't go away that leads to the challenge But what if the person is given things to do to help with the pain but won't do them because they make the assumption that it won't work This becomes a problem

Case Study

Let's talk about a middle aged woman with high Vata energy who has a 4 year history of sharp burning electrical pelvic symptoms that move up toward her head But over the last 6 months these pelvic symptoms progressed to severe bladder symptoms with burning pain during and after urination to the point of incapacitation so she cannot work or do normal daily activities She's given specific therapies that will indeed help her with the pain but is unable to do even a small part of them because she believes that they are making her symptoms worse In the end her mind is so strung out that she becomes confused with loss of ability to maintain direction in helping herself with healing

I know there will be some who would argue that this is just part of the problem and that is indeed true But what we have here is a mind that is interfering with the person getting better by preventing her from even using the therapies to begin with Physical pain freaks the mind out It produces enormous unsettling so that there is confusion, disarray, loss of ability to maintain direction, and lack of faith in any process

Role of Meditation

Obviously meditation does not eliminate pain but it has one very important attribute It settles the mind so that there is a potential for faith to peek its head in the door and nuture some calmness to the freaked out mind

We see a lot of people in the clinic with chronic disease who have perhaps underlying psychological or emotional pain but not obvious physical pain and so these people can also benefit from meditation

But it's one thing to deal with helping people with chronic disease but quite another to try to help those with chronic disease who have chronic physical pain

Meditation does not eliminate the pain It helps settle the mind so that it is not so anxious and is able to accept suggested therapies without freaking out There are times when pain is so commanding of our attention that a trial of a particular approach freaks us out  Everything is uncertain and we just want the pain to go away This is specifically a very bad place for people with chronic disease

Meditation and Healing

pranayama seatedHealing is a process that is poorly understood in our Western culture From an energy science point of view it requires time because it's a release of accumulated toxicity which takes time The major interfering stumbling block in the process of healing is the mind

Seemingly time isn't a commodity that much of us have in this Vata whacked...ie excessive movement... society in which we live but if real healing is going to happen it will require that a person decides on the part of herself to spend time to do the work

Whether it's reading a blog or doing a healing activity for oneself, it's consistency that counts One may find that there doesn't seem to be anything there for them one day but when they keep coming back they continue to find value in their activity

How the Mind Interferes in Our Healing

The most influence in healing is the mind because it prevents us from trusting the process and moving ahead with treatment plans

Change Nor do we understand often what is required of us taking on energy science healing Change in nutrition, change in lifestyle behavior patterns, doing unusual therapies that are foreign to us...these make the mind unsettled and want to run away, distrusting the process being suggested

Unknown journey Healing is in and of itself an unknown This can be very unsettling for the mind and most of us because as we drop our toxicity and imbalances, new states present themselves The once comfortable steady state of disease is not so steady which can be a good thing New experiences will occur and because they are out of the realm of our day to day experiences it freaks us out At times we yearn for no change Having said this, this change is slow and not herky-jerky and once we settle into this new way of doing things it's exciting seeing our old disease state dissolve into new areas of comfort

Pain Another reason that the mind interferes is because of pain particularly if an accentuation of the pain occurs with treatment This is obviously a real problem that causes the person to freak out about the therapy but it's nothing but a release(below) This will immediately send a signal to the mind of distrust and anxiety It will make the mind run and distrust But if the practitioner is able make adjustments things will get better and healing can occur

Release Who hasn't done a yoga session without experiencing some element of discomfort in the stretch? But this experience is simply a release of old patterns of holding the body in space When we get used to this experience we are not so fearful of it

Real healing takes time Energy science healing is not like modern medicine healing(matter science healing) The latter gets us out of tight jams such as cancer, car wrecks, and suicidal tendencies But it doesn't answer the major problem of chronic disease The word chronic disease has a specific meaning here It relates to a significant amount of time that it has taken to develop and express itself If someone has vein distention seen on the legs(varicosities) it implies that the microscopic veins have been distended for a long period of time It also implies that it will take a long time of treatment to deal with the problem Most people realize this time relationship but the mind interferes

Meditation as a Resource

The mind is the fastest moving vehicle in the body If it is always moving fast, it makes us impatient, undecided, and upset If treatment is not progressing fast enough or things seem to get worse, the mind will stop us on our healing journey

The use of meditation is a way to quiet the mind It stabilizes the mind energy field and allows us to witness the mind as it really is...an petulant, impatient, and confused child Meditation quiets the mind so we can have better clarity and see what we are doing for the long haul
