Raw Food

Vegetables

We have talked a lot about digestive fire and its importance.

So what about raw food? There's a good deal of talk about how nourishing it is. But is it?

No cooked away nutrients. Pure Nature without any derivatives. That's got to be beneficial. Right?

The energy science view is that to enhance digestive fire's effect on foods consumed, the use of heat and steam to provide some breakdown of the cellulose fibrous elements is of benefit to our digestive fire.

It makes sense. If we want to enhance the campfire's strength, putting a dry log(partially cooked food) on the fire instead of a wet one(raw food) enhances the effectiveness of the fire. Theidea is not to expend energy that we don't have to. Make it easy on ourselves.

I think the argument is that, "What the heck, the digestion is strong enough to handle it." That may be so but the qualities of rough, dry, light, and hard all contribute to Vata imbalance which is another reason why to avoid raw food. Vata due to its elemental makeup, increases the other energy patterns of Pitta and Kapha.

As we have talked about in times past there are what we call mythology. Raw foods fall into that category in my mind.
