The mindbody is an infinitely flexible energy field which is able to shift and change to whatever we want it to be

Our genes and nervous system, once thought to be rigidly fixed systems, now through research are showing plasticity or the ability for them to shape shift to our thoughts and desires Our mindbody is thinking and listening to everything we say

From an energy science view this mindbody connection is clear and intuitively we have known this all the time But now to be confirmed by our matter science medical model is quite cool

Why? Let's ask some questions using this information

          1 Can I do things to effect my genetic expression of cancer that occurs in my family by lifestyle choices?

          2 If I have negative thoughts("They" won't let me do it) or emotions(I am depressed), are there new neurons that appear and different genes that turn on or off based on our thoughts?

          3 If I want to change a habit in my life, how long will it take?

From what we have said above the answer to the first two questions is that whatever we think, well, we get it

But the third question is an important one From earlier work it has been shown that if we want to effect a change it takes about six weeks

Based on our concept of neuroplasticity new neurons are created when we begin doing a new task in order to support the formation of the task

Something magical happens between three and six weeks to support the formation of the habit

Have you noticed that it takes time to develop new neurons, I mean, a new habit? Did you think the new habit required a memory to remember to do the new habit? Is six weeks a long time for you to create a new habit?

How We Get Sick Energetically

Prevention of disease is all about preserving balance in the mindbody physiology Energy science is all about helping us stay in balance by making healthy lifestyle choices

When choices don't support balance then energetic imbalances of Vata, Pitta, and/or Kapha begin to appear in the GI tract

As the excess energy patterns move into the bloodstream they seek out areas of weakness

Tissues can weak genetically or they don't have strong digestive fire

Hmmm…. digestive fire That sounds familiar, doesn't it? Digestive fire is a collective term for all the enzyme systems in the gut, from the mouth to the colon and it is mirrored in the tissues as well and here they are collectively all the enzyme systems in the tissues

If the digestive fire is strong in the GI tract, then foods that are imbalancing are rendered to fine ash so to speak In the same way, if the digestive fire in the tissues is strong, then the imbalancing effects of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha energy patterns  is passed along to the next tissue layer If all the tissue layers are strong then the energy pattern returns to the GI tract to be released

Sugar As Medicine

So I arrive at work today and begin developing a very strong need for food, that is, I feel really hungry A definite Pitta provocation during Kapha time(6-10am)

Reasonable, you say, it's morning and breakfast time But the issue is that I don't eat breakfast sooo…what do I do, run somewhere and get breakfast?

Well it wasn't possible because I was going to start seeing patients in the next fifteen minutes But I knew that I wouldn't be comfortable in the next three hours ignoring the appetite I'd start getting impatient and feel irritable

Have you ever had the experience of being very hungry and you eat something sweet and the hunger goes away just like that?

The important observation is that the sweet taste immediately pacifies Pitta and its appetite

The tastes sweet, bitter, and astringent all reduce Pitta when sensed in the mindbody physiology

So from an energy science nutritional approach it made medicinal sense to find something sweet to calm the Pitta energy pattern And it worked beautifully

Out of sight! Can we imagine this scenario in not too distant future? Our genetic fingerprint being effected

"Mrs Jones, you have a BRCA gene which has a high risk for lethal breast cancer"

"Well doctor what can I do about it?"

"I have some specific nutritional formats that can be helpful I can also put you in touch with a lifestyle trainer who can support you through these efforts"

"Thanks very much doctor"

                 Six weeks later

"Congratulations Mrs Jones, your tests show you have reversed the BRCA gene expression We should recheck to see how the expression is going every six months until you're well established with your lifestyle behavior patterns"

This scenario is not just for breast cancer It can be played out for prostate cancer as well

Genetic counseling will be a real thing in the near future and the exciting aspect is that it will stimulate lifestyle changes for the better

Now right now even if we don't have a genetic marker for a serious disease we can do one thing that is responsible

“Are You Really Hungry?”

If we find something on TV that we don't care to view, we switch channels or turn it off

Whether it's TV or nourishing ourselves with food it seems that the same line of reasoning should follow the same line of thinking(who's saying anything should be reasonable?) -if the mindbody isn't interested then don't participate and this includes food

Appetite is our best clue as to when the mindbody is in need of food and is a cardinal sign of our health and aid in guiding us along this path of lifestyle eating behaviors

At times we eat out of routine – I always eat breakfast because that starts me off for the day; due to social circumstances – the party was great but why did I eat, I wasn't really hungry; after work I like to unwind with the family; and the most recent nutritional craze, snacking – why am I eating this snack when I'm not hungry?(because the rule is eat 6 times per day, that's why)

And when observing the appetite, pay attention to how your appetite begins to dwindle as you fill the stomach

If the appetite is treated like a gas gauge of 1-10, we should stop eating when we're a 6 which is about two handfuls

So two things

          1 Eat only when you're have an appetite

          2 Fill up to a 6
