Yeast and Dis-ease
While naturally occurring yeast in our nutrition is healthy, in the West we have become excessive users of yeasted products primarily in the form of bread products and pastry This adversely affects the bowel flora or the microbiome of the gut because yeast overgrowth is a definite complication This is why yeasted bread products are listed in the No column in the energy science nutritional formats
Energetically the sweet taste soothes the nervous system Even though we grow up with the sweet smell of oven baked bread and yearn for the sweet taste in its many different forms unfortunately the yeast in bread products can do a number on our gut flora This is why if we look at the planetary nutritional habits we'll see that 80% of the population uses flatbreads as a way of taking their grains which have naturally occurring yeast, not yeast that has been artificially added to produce the puffiness of the dough
Dis-ease and Yeast
What does yeast have to do with dis-ease in the energy physiology?
Think about what yeast does to dough as it rises The excess yeast in the dough produces the hot quality during the rising process We can feel that hot quality on the sides of the bowl as the process is occurring This hot quality is delivered to the GIT and produces an additive effect to the already present hot quality in the gut As you may remember it's the hot quality that produces many of the symptoms of dis-eases such as gastroesophageal reflux(heartburn), diarrhea, inflammatory bowel dis-ease, and inflammatory joint dis-ease
But what else are we observing? The dough begins to "rise" This rising is an result of the CO2 gas being produced by the yeasties as a byproduct of their metabolizing of sugars in the flour The result energetically is the qualities of cold, light, mobile, dry, rough, subtle, and clear are being added to the GIT when we consume yeasted products These qualities of gas lead to a build up of the Vata energy pattern in the GIT
Vata is a primary player in all dis-ease processes in the mindbody and in particular 80% of dis-eases that are seen So you can see how very important it is to limit the influence of Vata in the body
What To Do About Dietary Yeast?
So there are a number of different lifestyle behaviors that you can take on that will make your gut a happier place
Use flatbreads such as sprouted wheat tortillas, pancakes, or corn tortillas(corn should not be used for PV energy makeup)
Consume naturally occurring yeast found in all grain flours We don't have to go looking for this because it's naturally there for us
Avoid the bakery section in grocery stores As Vata pacifying as it may be this section of the store should be off limits
Scones which are a great bakery good without the yeast
Don't supplement with yeast This seems obvious but in many matter science health communities we find recommendations for yeast supplementation While this may be a good idea from a molecular point of view it makes little sense from an energy science perspective
Toast the bread if you have to have it so that the residual yeast and the Vata qualities are not consumed

Healing Expectations: Redefining What It Takes to Heal
Would we think it unusual that someone involved in a severe car accident would walk out of the ICU in a couple of days looking well? In the same way would we think it ususual that someone with chronic disease would clear their symptoms in a couple of months?
When various energy science therapies are used healing is elicited because therapies help correct the imbalance of qualities For example, the qualities of hot and mobile over time get cleared from the body with therapies
It literally takes years to cultivate these imbalances due to unconscious lifestyle choices Energy science work is not like taking an antibiotic for a few days and everything is better Wish it were that simple in the world of imbalances But the question often arises as to how long do I have to do this work to see benefits?
Foundational Therapies
Since all disease begins in the gastrointestinal tract(GIT) except for trauma nutrition that supports the energy constitutional makeup becomes foundational therapy for helping support a return to qualitative balance and eliminates imbalancing qualities in the GIT For example if a VP has a diet rich in nightshades(tomato, eggplant, peppers) simply removing those from the diet can be an important step toward bringing balance
Observing the removal of incompatible food combinations is another foundational therapeutic step to aid the GIT to correct the imbalances of the hot and mobile qualities of the syndrome
Therapies that support improving agni(digestive power) also do this rebalancing because removing ama improves the rebalancing effort
But how long does it take for rebalancing? Foods are instantaneous in terms of their effects in the GIT they have the most immediate impact on symptoms and within 7-10 days one can experience shifts in symptoms But the time for these foundational therapies to do their magic is dependent upon how long the GIT has been imbalanced The estimate is 2mo for every year of symptoms
Advanced Therapies
There are clinical situations where the imbalance that was created is beyond simple nutritional work In this setting there are more advanced therapies that are required in order to achieve the clearing of the qualitative imbalances developed Typically the symptoms have gone beyond the basic disease process
Again these advanced therapies such as herbal formulas, basti management, and detoxification procedures are part of getting better but again require time Oddly when the energy mindbody reaches this advanced stage of dis-ease the length of time remains the same...2mo for every year of symptoms, that is, if you've been having problems for 10 years then it will take one year and 4 months to progress to a symptom free state
Appropriate Expectations
So we can see that when we do energy science work to heal the IC syndrome it requires dedicated work on our part to maintain lifestyle changes that support the clearance of the imbalances created Unfortunately in life there is no quick fix I think we all intuitively know that but we hope against hope that it's not true

5 Ways To Make Lifestyle Changes Happen
Anything that we want to achieve in life....getting in better physical condition, losing weight, improving people's lives by working in a business or profession, changing a lifestyle pattern of behavior like smoking etc....requires that some form of structure be put into place so that a pattern of behavior is done over a period of time Hopefully the change is the pattern of behavior causes the desired change

I believe that this is the major problem in healing chronic disease Healing any disease is doable with varying levels of difficulty based on length of disease and number of energy patterns involved but it requires time to do the things necessary In the energy science discipline it's not just one thing that promotes healing but rather a multiplicity of things that bring about physiologic change
This multimodality energy science approach begins with lifestyle measures focused on nutritional formats as discussed in the past but there are other things that can be done to support this approach
5 Ways to Create Structure
1 Overcoming inertia is the biggest challenge and keeping up with it is the next biggest hurdle
2 Use a calendar (here's a downloadable calender you can use on your computer) and mark down what's needed to create the change that you want to see happen....then check it every day
2 Expect it to be awkward at first...kind of like finding your groove You may forget and that's what the calendar is for
3 Daily do that activity at specific times of the day marking your items on the calendar
4 The more things you do to effect the change the better the chances of getting the desired result of healing
5 Make it a set of activities A morning routine has a set of things to do and these all work together to set the tone for the day as well as each activity supporting each other
It takes about 6-8 weeks for the change to be made Then you can move on to add more new activities to advance your healing journey
And sometimes it means deleting behaviors that don't serve us well.....for example going to bed earlier sets up the morning times to do some activities

Heartburn and Fermented Foods
It's clear that foods can heal but the converse of this statement is also true: Foods can make us sick But why is it that Molly can eat certain foods and you can't? It has to do with the qualities that increase in Molly and the qualities that increase in you AND which qualities bring about balance for Molly and which cause imbalance for you
We are all uniquely different and what brings about the pain of hyperacidity syndrome(HAS) and gastroesophageal reflux(GERD) is different for each of us The bottom line is that once the imbalance of qualities becomes apparent you have to do something about it and the first thing to assess is what foods are causing this imbalance
Fermented Foods and Imbalance
As I have written about in previous blogs the most important quality that causes HAS/GERD is hot Along with the mobile quality these two cause the predominant symptoms of these common diseases So from what I've just said it behooves us to look at those foods that carry these qualities and produce the imbalance
Anything that's acidic carries the hot quality It's not the only way to get this quality but it's a predominant one because the sour taste is the acid taste in Nature(fyi, the bitter is the alkaline taste in Nature) So any foods that create acidity are bound to effect an imbalancing change in the body with respect to the hot quality
Foods that carry the sour, salty and pungent tastes will give us the hot quality in certain measures so should be avoided in the HAS/GERD pain syndrome
So you can see that fermented foods in your nutrition would be problematic but also the foods that can be fermented when they enter the GIT(GI tract) are also an issue When you follow the nutritional format at icdiet.com(called a Pitta pacifying diet because it reduces that hot quality) or the one at foodsheal.com you'll automatically begin removing the hot quality from your nutrition As I've written about before, homemade yogurt is alright in moderation unless you have severe symptoms(that is, NO store bought yogurt) or you have a Kapha constitution
This removes the difficulty in deciding what is safe and what is not For example, lime doesn't carry as much of the hot quality as its mature fruit the lemon, so lime is safe and lemon is not
Foods That Ferment Within Us
What about foods that are not fermented outside but when we bring them inside out GIT they become acidic and produce the hot quality?
A beautiful example of this process is fruit when added with other foods Fruit by itself is innocent but when added with other foods can produce the hot quality(increasing acidity)
But there are many examples that don't include fruits, such as beans with meat and cheese (taco, enchilada, etc), eggs with meat or cheese(that's an omlete), and milk with fruit(the morning smoothie)
All of these incompatible food combinations are deadly traps for the IC patient because of this internal fermentation process that occurs in all of us

The Biologic Energy Field and Death
At the end of a recent workshop I was talking with a woman about the various ways we can access the energy body She recounted an interesting story that illustrates how connecting at an energy level can bring about healing and remarkable recovery from even death
Her husband in his 70's and in good health had some mild chest pain and was evaluated at a prestigious US medical center and found to have severe coronay vessel dis-ease He underwent 4 vessel bypass grafting which went very well But in going to recovery his circulatory system collapsed His wife who had become nervous after getting the initial good news eventually found her husband in profound cardiac collapse The surgeons were completely mystified by the turn of events having no explanation for the matter field medical events they were witnessing
Over the ensuing 13 days he was provided pulmonary support with ECMO(extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) due to the pulmonary fluid congestion In effect her husband had died But in the ensuing days after collapse, this woman decided to maintain an energetic connection and support through various modalities She looked back in retrospect and is still baffled by what had transpired but she followed her instinct and heart(from an energy perspective these are one and the same) and crafted these modalities
The matter field physicians and caregivers were amazed at the man's recovery They had not ever witnessed such a medical event They had supported the man with the matter field technology but were puzzled by what had transpired because this man came back from death when he had no business surviving
This story elucidates what can happen when there is merging of the matter and energy field healing sciences The man had checked out from a matter field(molecular way)perspective but the energy field was still present and was persuaded by another energy field to stick around awhile longer
Presently the field of biologic energy science technology is very new but at the same time very ancient And I want to be very clear here about what I am calling the energy field There are many who talk about the energy field using crystals and other modalities that are not grounded on any science I am not referring to this type of biologic energy technology This clarity is important or otherwise we will be led astray in our studies and findings
The type of energy science technology that I am discussing here today is grounded on the science of the yoga tradition which has been with us for 5000 years. And I think that if we are going to work with the energy body for healing, we will have to embody for ourselves these ancient systems, not a system that was crafted out of the imagination of someone 50 to 100 years ago. We MUST have some standardization in this process of energy science healing if we are going to apply it on clinical grounds and study it in research
